Michael J Strang (1942-2021) St Ives Interest IMPASTO IMPRESSIONIST oil painting
ARTIST: Michael J Strang (1942-2021) British TITLE: “Cornish Poppies” SIGNED: lower right MEDIUM: oil on board SIZE: 56cm x 50cm inclusive of frame CONDITION: very good DETAIL: Amazing impasto depth to this wonderful painting by one of our favourite 20th Century Cornish painters Michael Strang. Described by Alison Bevan of the Penlee House Gallery as a “modern day romantic”, Michael Strang sought to absorb and then reproduce the natural world with the intensity of his vision, habitually forming fixations with various locations to which he frequently returned – Long Rock, near Penzance, and Porthmear at St Ives are such examples. Michael was also a realist, with a ‘classicists’ belief in excellence and the value of sound technique.
