CAROLINE DURIEUX Original SIGNED Charcoal & Graphite Drawing WPA FAP Project

Durieux took a job as director of the Federal Art Project (FAP) of the Works Progress Administration in February 1939. In 2010, a retrospective, “Caroline Durieux: A Radioactive Wit”, was exhibited at the LSU Museum of Art.

Reaching Forward

This pencil drawing was totally created from the imagination of the artist showing the very old and very young hands. The young hand reflects the innocence and dependence of youth whereas the older hand represents wisdom and experience and a willingness to reach out and lend a comforting hand.

Finish Line Duck

With a slight exaggeration of the running ladies he captured this finishing event. From the length of the strides one could surmise it was a sprint event.
