Folk Art Jean Henry Theorem Painting Pineapple 4.75”x4” Monticello Signed

What a sweet small Theorem painting hand painted by folk artist, Jean Henry. It depicts a pineapple sitting in an urn or vase with large pineapple leaves. It was purchased at Monticello – Thomas Jefferson’s home. Theorem painting is a 19th-century American folk art technique where designs are created by applying paint through stencils onto fabric, typically white cotton velvet. Popular between 1800 and 1860, this method was commonly taught in finishing schools for young women to quickly produce artistic still lifes, often featuring fruit baskets or flowers. The pineapple is a symbol of welcome and would often be found on homes.
