Artist DiLeo was a prolific painter from the 1960’s period in Italy that specialized in small oil paintings of famous places in the antique cities in Italy. His work took him to Rome, Venice , Florence etc. His style is a mixture of impressionism and mannerism. Once you familiarize yourself with one or two of his paintings you are able to spot them anywhere, so iconographic is his work. This lovely painting of St. Marks’s Basilica is a little jewel. It captures the almost surreal feeling one gets when viewing this magnificent structure the very first time, especially on a warm summer’s day.
