Antique French Impressionist Vente Corot stamped oil painting Landscape 1860’s
This is a wonderful French Impressionist painting circa 1860 to 1870 with a stamp on the back stretcher VENTE COROT. Many paintings with this stamp are sold as those by or attributed to Jean Camille Baptiste Corot . The scene bears resemblance to two well known Corot paintings Passeur en barque a la Rive Boissee avec une Femme et ses deux enfants ( sold at Doyles auction NY in 2017 for 106K ) and Passeur atterrissant avec deux paysannes dans sa barque ( in the Metropolitan Museum of Art).- both were painted later in his career circa 1860 to 1865 The subject matter is related and the vantage point appears similar with same distant town in each painting, The town is most likely Mante which was a medieval town on the Seine around 30 miles north of Paris.
