Emil Brand Original Ink Painting Old Jerusalem Israel Hebrew Newspaper Signed

Original contemporary Emil Brand ink or grisaille-toned painting on Hebrew newspaper depicting a figure in Old Jerusalem. Signed “Emil” in the bottom right. Framed without glass affixed to a white mat and contemporary black lacquer frame. Artist label affixed to verso. In Excellent condition. Bold and crisp with no holes, rips or tears. Displays handsomely. Painting measures 18” x 12” and 25” x 19” with the frame. This is likely a contemporary Emil Brand as opposed to the Holocaust survivor who passed in 1974 due to the barcode on the newspaper which wasn’t introduced on Israeli newspapers until the late 1970s 80s. Regardless, a brilliant painting worthy of displaying proudly.

MACHIG LABDRON DIGITAL/ GICLEE PRINT TIBETAN THANGKA PAINTING WITH SILK BROCADE

THIS IS A HIGH QUALITY DIGITAL/GICLEE PRINTING OF ORIGINAL MACHIG LABDRON THANGKA MOUNTED WITH SILK. Machig Labdron, also known as Machik Labdron or Machig Lapdron, was a renowned Tibetan Buddhist yogini and spiritual teacher who lived in the 11th century. She is credited with being the founder of the Chöd (or Chö) tradition, a unique and profound practice within Tibetan Buddhism that emphasizes the cutting through of ego and the offering of one’s own body to sentient beings as a means of spiritual realization and compassion. Machig Labdron’s legacy continues to inspire and influence Tibetan Buddhism, particularly within the Chöd tradition. Her teachings on fearlessness, compassion, and the transformation of negative emotions through the practice of Chöd remain relevant and widely studied by practitioners to this day. She is considered a pioneering figure in the history of Tibetan Buddhism and a symbol of the power of compassion and spiritual insight. The thangka is not a flat creation like an oil painting or acrylic painting but consists of a complex subject. Generally, thangkas last a very long time and retain much of their luster, but because of their delicate nature, they have to be kept in dry places where moisture won’t affect the quality of the painting. The Thangkas serve as important teaching tools depicting the life of the Buddha, various influential lamas and other deities and Bodhisattvas. The Thangka, when created properly, perform several different functions. Images of deities can be used as teaching tools when depicting the life (or lives) of the Buddha, describing historical events concerning important Lamas, or retelling myths associated with other deities. The Devotional images act as the centerpiece during a ritual or ceremony and are often used as mediums through which one can offer prayers or make requests.
